Hälau Name
•        Hālau – is translated as “school.”  It literally means hā (to breathe or spirit of the mouth) and lau (leaf).  Together hālau
means “an extension of the breath of life” (symbolized by the leaf) via teaching.
•        Ha’a – means a sacred style of dance with a humility before God or a supreme being.
•        Kea – This is
Kumu Paul’s family name.  Each Hālau Ha'a o Kea is named for a family member.•        Kinohi - Kinohi
is Kumu Paul's son.  Kinohi means "new beginning" or genesis. The hālau is named in his honor.

Colors
•        Red is the color of the lehua blossom and the working chiefs of the land.
•        Black enhances the red and encompasses all colors, meaning the hālau welcomes all.
•        White is for the purity of our heart and intentions as we embark on this experience with one another.

Logo
The pahu drum incorporates the outline Mount St. Helena which stands above Calistoga where the hālau began.  The
Golden Gate Bridge is connected by  lehua blossoms which symbolize the travel taken to bring the students together from
Hawai'i and San Francisco and across this region of California.

There are 2 other hālau that carry the Kea family name.
